Nadine Touzet’s Summary

Seeking to connect with executives in charge of outsourcing translations in their corporations, and of arranging speaking engagements, study tours or field visits of their management to France and other French-speaking countries.
Editing and more general language consulting are also provided.

I also look for connections to help me embrace contemporary issues.

My values are: to provide high-standard services based on client-friendly, yet practical, and most importantly direct interaction.

I am a Freelancer, NOT a translation agency. I attend personally to my clients' projects, and outsource only to translators who share my values, when needed.

I have a broad spectrum of experience ranging from literally everyday topics to state-of-the art telecom and network equipment, plus a growing and most fulfilling experience in non governmental organizations.

As a conference interpreter, I have also taken part in a number of international meetings, in environments as diverse as economic policy meetings and ministerial negotiations, field visits at industrial sites or biotech plants, training sessions for computer experts, banking staff or statisticians.

I have edited articles for journals in the field of social sciences.

Nadine Touzet’s Education

  • Institut national des Langues et Civilisations orientales

    B.A. , South Asia/Bengali , 20032007

I recently (2007) completed a B.A. in Bengali/Bangla (including studies on India and Bangladesh, international relations, economic and social studies,...)

Although Bengali is a sideline and is not intended for professional use in translation, I'm nonetheless exploring possibilities in the direction of Bangladesh or Kolkata.

  • Ecole Supérieure d'Interprètes et de Traducteurs (ESIT) - PARIS

    Diploma , Translation, Interpreting , 19761978

In my first year at ESIT, I learned consecutive interpreting, which I'm still happy to practice at business meetings, lunches and various other visits.

The second year was devoted to learning simultaneous interpreting. This type of interpreting is the better known of the two. It entails listening to a speaker while translating (almost) at the same time. Although this can be considered as counter-intuitive, it's still the fastest way to get a medium to large number of people to benefit from translation at the same time.

  • Université d'Angers

    B.A. , English and Italian , 19721976

In a standard college environment, I studied English and became self-taught in Italian, a Minor being required for full graduation in the Major subject.

This syllabus allowed me to work for 2 full years teaching French in a school environment in England, a great opportunity for me to perfect my linguistic skills, and attend cultural events, while taking (and passing) my degree in English Language and Literature.

Back in the 70's, I was discouraged from doing a Master's Degree on Jane Austen, because my choice of research topic (Jane Austen - an 18th-century Feminist) was not considered as valid. I am now pleased to see that the thinking has changed on the subject and that she is given her due place in Women's Studies.

However, I moved on and went to ESIT.
